Riding for Disabled (NSW) Introduction to Hippotherapy
Presenters - Pippa Hodge and Sally Francis will be conducting an accreditation course for Equine based occupational and physical therapy at RDA Raymond Terrace/Lower Hunter over the weekend 27th/28th/29th July 2012.
Hippotherapy is a form of Physical and Occupational Therapy in which a Therapist uses the movement of a horse to provide carefully graded motor and sensory input, leading to improved neurological function and sensory processing.
This is achieved through utilising the movement of the horse's pelvis and is carefully graded for each patient's treatment.
Unlike Therapeutic Horseback riding (where specific riding skills are taught) the movement of the horse, controlled by the trained horse handler is part of the treatment programme to achieve physical goals.
